An environmentally sustainable childcare center

Evergreen State College Campus Children’s Center | olympia, WA

The Children’s Center serves children of Evergreen students, staff, and faculty. Three primary forms, joined by a central circulation spine, create distinct zones for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, each with a direct connection south to the outdoor play area.

Environmental Works responded to the College’s commitment to environmental sustainability through incorporating passive cooling and natural ventilation; extensive natural light through large windows, clerestories, and translucent canopy panels; canopy roofing allowing for both solar heat and shade; zero stormwater runoff; and recycled content and low-VOC building materials.
