Villa San Juan Bautista

farmworker Housing

Catholic Housing Services and Environmental Works worked extensively with the Centralia Community Development Department to design Villa San Juan Bautista, a model for rural farmworker housing.  Its building form, color, and detailing align well with the low-density neighborhood where it is situated, blending beautifully into its rural setting.

The densely clustered 3-story townhouse-style buildings are grouped around a central greenspace with a commons building and a playground at its center. The courtyard gathering space enhances community, while also providing a confined and well-monitored playspace for parents to watch their children. Unit entries are clustered in groupings of two to four, to foster interaction between residents.
